Covenant House: a tax-deductible non-profit organization
Since opening its doors in 1972, Covenant House has sheltered and cared for youth experiencing homelessness and victims of human trafficking, bolstering their chances for financial independence and personal success. Our education and job training services provide young people with a fresh start, ensuring that those who walk through our doors have the best chance at never experiencing homelessness again. A tax deductible donation to Covenant House can help a young person put their best foot forward at a job interview with a well-pressed suit, a full stomach, and a safe night of rest at one of our 30+ care centers across North and Central America.

In November 2017, Chapin Hall of the University of Chicago released a groundbreaking report on youth homelessness in the United States through its Voices of Youth Count initiative. Conducted over the course of a year rather than a single night, the study is the most comprehensive research to date on youth homelessness.
Their findings showed that the number of people experiencing homelessness in America increased for the first time since 2010. This year, 4.2 million young people will find themselves without a safe, stable place to sleep. They may be escaping years of physical abuse, a dangerous human trafficking network, a drug-addicted parent, or a house overflowing with rage.
With charitable donations from taxpayers each year, Covenant House provides food, clothing, shelter, counseling, and medical care to youth experiencing homelessness in care centers across 31 cities and 6 countries. A charitable contribution of just $10 can provide more than a day’s worth of food for one of the 80,000+ children reached by Covenant House each year. For less than the cost of a monthly utility bill, your tax-deductible donation can put an entire week’s worth of food on the table for a young victim of human trafficking who is currently experiencing homelessness, or support our efforts in reaching more young people that are unstably housed or are at risk of facing homelessness.
With the help of charitable donations, Covenant House is able to send Outreach specialists into the streets each night, in vans stocked with food and pamphlets about our services. Outreach specialists are trained to gain the trust of youth experiencing homelessness. Our street and van outreach make the road to safety and self-sufficiency much easier for those who would otherwise have a hard time finding our care centers –or worse, those who would sooner be reached by someone intending harm.
On average, close to 2,000 children take shelter at a Covenant House care center each night. A vast percentage of our children come to our doors after aging out of the foster care system, having been tossed out or neglected by caregivers once the government paychecks cease. With the help of tax-deductible donations to our research and advocacy initiatives, it is our hope to progress toward a society where placing out of foster care does not translate into an adult life of poverty, homelessness, and detachment. By donating today, your tax-deductible charitable contribution can provide safety and resources for one of the thousands of children displaced and made homeless by foster care each year.
The Covenant House model for protecting the youth in our care does not stop with meeting their immediate needs. Through a combination of support strategies, including educational programs, job training and placement, medical services, mental health and substance use counseling, legal aid and beyond, we help young people embrace the great promise of their lives, overcome steep barriers to independence and strive to achieve their aspirations. Our continuum of care includes an individual case plan that is tailored to each young person's specific needs and goals.
Why your investment in our work matters.
Here's why we ask you to help us raise crucial operating funds for Covenant House. We're a private organization providing shelter and services to kids facing homelessness across the Americas. Our mission is to reach more kids, offer them a safe and stable place to turn where they are loved and respected, and provide them with tools that put them on a path towards independence and self-sufficiency reducing their risk of future homelessness. Your support for our work helps make that journey possible for thousands of young people.
