Red Nose Day Supports Covenant House
On Thursday May 27, Americans across the country will be wearing their Digital Red Noses, fundraising, and tuning in to NBC for a special night celebrating Red Nose Day in a nationwide effort to fight child poverty.
Created by Richard Curtis, writer-director (Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral, About Time), Red Nose Day has been built on the foundation that the power of entertainment can help raise money and awareness of poverty to save and change millions of lives around the world. And this powerful, unique movement is working – globally, Red Nose Day has raised over $1 billion since its launch in the U.K. in 1988.
This is the fifth consecutive year that Covenant House has been named a Charity Partner for Red Nose Day. “I love the spirit of Red Nose Day and we are so grateful for this amazing support from the Red Nose movement,” said Covenant House President & CEO Kevin Ryan. “For those of us who are so honored to work with the young people at Covenant House, we know that young people overcoming homelessness are creative, smart, and funny, which is what the spirit of Red Nose Day is all about.
“With this support from the Red Nose movement, Covenant House is able to do more street outreach, help more young survivors of human trafficking, and provide more desperately needed beds,” added Ryan. “These funds open doors of opportunity and empower more of our young people to pursue the great promise of their lives and share their gifts with the world.”
Red Nose Day grants aim to address both the immediate needs of children living in poverty, and foster long-term change to break the cycle of poverty and provide hope for a better future. Money raised goes to the Red Nose Day Fund, which supports programs like Covenant House that ensure children in need are safe, healthy and given the support all children need and deserve.
Since its debut in 2015, Red Nose Day in the United States has raised over $240 million and positively impacted over 25 million children in America and around the world. The 8-week Red Nose Day campaign culminates on Thursday, May 27 with an exclusive episode of NBC’s The Wall, a trivia game show hosted by longtime supporter of Red Nose Day, Chris Hardwick. During the show, viewers at home will have the chance to support the campaign through donating, while also learning how proceeds from Red Nose Day helps underserved children. Be sure to tune in to NBC on May 27 at 8 PM ET!
